elemental was established 20 years ago in Spitalfields in what was then the emerging creative quarter of London's East End. The shop rapidly developed a reputation as a source of unusual and unique furniture, lighting and interiors.
The East side of London has changed dramatically but the area still maintains its cutting edge appeal. You will find us at 130 Shoreditch High Street E1 6JE in our restored period shop premises spread over 2 floors in the Grade 2 listed former Wells & Company Commercial Iron Works building. We are open 6 days per week and we look forward to seeing you there soon.
More information about our spaces, our events and what the local area has to offer are on our news page as well as archives of previous stock and press cuttings.
We supply and sell both sympathetically restored and preserved antique and vintage and mid-century furniture to inspire you and your space. Our products can be antique, vintage, re-cycled, re-used, sometimes re-imagined, sometimes re-discovered but always green. Many of these pieces are so well made that they are in effect timeless and are often unique and one-of-a-kind and quite often exclusive. Re-placing them once again but in a modern context will bring character to your contemporary space as well as many years of pleasure. They will also help you to preserve our environment.
Our customers are private buyers of all ages, interior design professionals, architects, contractors, many well-known restaurant groups, hotels, bars, cafes, and developers as well as other dealers, shop merchandisers and shop owners and magazine stylists, artists, actors, musicians and celebrities. We have clients from all over the world. Anyone who aspires to something a little different in their space either to inspire a theme or simply to provide a counterpoise will find something of interest in our online galleries of antiques, lighting, seating, curiosities and selected designers.
We are also interested to buy your antiques and other interesting items. If you think that you may have something that would be of interest please do email us some details and pictures in the first instance - firstname.lastname@example.org. Unfortunately as we get offered so many items we can only respond if your pieces are of interest.
What is sympathetic restoration?
Some pieces require restoration and some are fine as found. We try to let the piece speak to us rather than impose ourselves too heavily - allowing the item to express itself as it is restored. We operate without constraints to style or period and our pieces are from all places and epochs. The importance lies in the piece itself, in its integrity of purpose and how its story and the skills of its original creator unfold as it is slowly bought back to life with a contemporary touch.
